CHATEAU LEOVILLE POYFERRE

One of the offspring of the division of Saint-Julien's large Léoville estate, Léoville Poyferré came into existence in 1840 and was included among the Second Growths in the 1855 Classification.

The Poyferré family kept the château until 1865, but had to sell due to the oidium crisis. The estate's modern history begins in 1920 when it was purchased by the high-profile négociant family, the Cuveliers, with Didier Cuvelier taking the reins in 1979 and transforming Léoville Poyferré into one of the leading Great Growths.

With its outstanding 80-hectare terroir, Cuvelier's huge investment in facilities and his consistent attention to detail, the estate is now firmly on the radar as a significant producer of elegant, lushly concentrated, long-lived wines, and it is one of the most exciting properties to be found in the Médoc.
